About the Masterclass
This two-day programme is focused on helping participants to scope, design and develop a taxonomy to support the knowledge management objectives and programmes in their organisation.
It exposes participants to the range of different ways that taxonomies and taxonomy work can be used to support an organisation’s knowledge management objectives, and imparts key design principles for a usable, maintainable and effective taxonomy. The Masterclass teaches an evidence-based approach to taxonomy development that takes into account different stakeholder needs to ensure maximum adoption. It stresses the importance of a taxonomy as a living system with an active governance and evaluation process around it. We’ll cover the important links between taxonomy and enterprise search, and how to design a taxonomy that is flexible enough to serve different functions – for example, records management, as well as general knowledge sharing.
Participants will receive a copy of Patrick Lambe’s book Organising Knowledge: Taxonomies, Knowledge and Organisation Effectiveness.
Come with one or more colleagues and work on your organisational needs in the Masterclass. Pricing is structured to make it easy for group registration.
This is part of a four-Masterclass series. The other three Masterclasses are:
Knowledge Audits and KM Planning – 22-23 November 2018 – the knowledge maps created in a knowledge audit can be used as an evidence base for taxonomy development, as well as for KM planning.
Scoping a Digital Transformation Project – 25 January 2019 – taxonomy and terminology governance is a frequent capability gap when seeking to deepen and scale up digital transformation in an enterprise.
Implementing Taxonomy and Search in SharePoint – 21-22 February 2019 – the technology you have in place will constrain what you can do with taxonomy and search. Learn how to get the best out of your taxonomy and search in the SharePoint environment.
